Over 65 years of rich history!
Machane Massad has been our home-away-from-home for over 65 years now. Here is a bit of history about our Machane:
Camps Massad of Canada were established in 1947, with the creation of Massad Alef on Lac Quenouille, Quebec. Machane Massad is set in the beautiful Laurentian mountains of Quebec, Canada, with Emek (Junior) and Galil (Senior) sections, Malam (Machon Le'Madrichim), our great Agam (Waterfront) and our other diverse facilities.
We have a long tradition of Hebrew language immersion, based in a traditional and modern Orthodox Jewish summer setting. Campers and staff from across Canada, the US, and Israel make up the Machane Massad family. With a great staff to camper ratio, and a true sense of community, you can feel confident that our campers are well cared for and looked after – our small camp size allows for close and careful supervision. Campers and staff look forward to returning year after year, taking part in our fun and special community that is Machane Massad!.
Machane Massad was founded by Rabbi Aron Horowitz, along with Isaac Gold, the first President of the our Camp, and has a long and rich history. Past campers and staff have many fond memories of their years spent at Machane Massad.
At Machane Massad, our children capture the wonder of youth and embrace their Jewish heritage through meaningful programs and experiences. A limited enrolment of just 150 campers ensures individual attention for each child and personal, hands-on interaction among campers and counsellors. Through unparalleled creative, interactive programming, our stellar staff and emphasis on Hebrew, our choice-based schedule allows each camper to participate in the activities he or she wants to experience while promoting individual achievement, skill development and the creation of friendships which will last a lifetime.
The opportunities for children today are remarkable. Few, however, can provide the kind of profound experience available at a Jewish sleep-away camp. At a time when we hope to give our kids the skills they need to succeed, we sometimes miss the forest for the trees. At Machane Massad, we invite you to walk this forest where our campers find a summer home. A place to grow stronger physically, emotionally and spiritually, to find challenge and discover a new confidence, develop character with new adventures and have a blast with new friends.
Camp Massad is located on a beautiful lake in the Laurentian mountain range in Southern Quebec, about 90 minutes north of Montreal.
Our campers come from all over Canada, United States, Israel and even campers from international locations!
Camp is divided into two session. Campers can stay for both sessions, or one. We also have shorter starter-camps for first time campers who are not ready to spend the whole summer away! Visit our registration page to learn more about the 2013 session.
We provide busses from Montreal and Toronto, and offer a pick-up service from Pierre Elliot Trudeau airport for international campers.
Included in the Camp Massad tuition is bus transportation to and from camp, laundry services, tuck (canteen), and all trips and activities within the session dates.
Massad is not a uniform camp. We encourage our campers and staff to dress however they feel comfortable, though we try to be respectable on Shabbat and Holidays.
There are approximately 150 campers each session. To learn about the units at camp, click here
Camp food is always nutritious and delicious! Camp is OU certified with a full-time Mashgiach on staff. We provide a salad bar at lunch and dinner, and have plenty of vegetarian options. We have fresh fruit for snack, as well as the occasional cookie! Our wonderful chefs George & Mimimelon create appetizing weekly meal schedules everyone enjoys.
